MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – From over a hundred hopefuls, the Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. (BPCI) has narrowed down the candidates that will be competing for this year’s Binibining Pilipinas crown to 40.

The announcement was made on January 27 at the Gloria Maris Banquet Hall.

A rigorous 4-day training gave the pageant hopefuls of what is yet to come in the country’s prestigious beauty pageant that selects the country’s next representative to the Miss Universe and other international beauty contests.

Madame Stella Marquez Araneta, Chairperson of the Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc., was there during the announcement as well as members of the BPCI Board of Directors Conchitina Bernardo and Betsy Westendorp.

Reigning 2013 queens Ariella Arida (Miss Universe 3rd runner-up), Bea Rose Santiago (Miss International), Johanna Datul (Miss Suprantational), and Cindy Miranda (Miss Tourism Queen International Top 10 placer), and Shamcey Supsup (Miss Universe 2011 3rd runner-up) were also present during the event.

BPCI has been around since 1964 and has produced numerous beauty queens, beginning with Miss Gloria Diaz’ Miss Universe win in 1969.
