LOOK: Imelda Schweighart’s letter resigning from Miss PH Earth duties
Though Imelda quits Miss PH Earth follows the release of an embarrassing viral video showing her criticizing a Miss Earth winner's looks, her resignation letter makes no mention of the incident

MANILA, Philippines – Imelda Schweighart resigned as Miss Philippines Earth on Monday, October 31, and her letter to Carousel Productions, the company behind the Miss Philippines Earth and Miss Earth pageants, is below.

Although Imelda’s resignation comes after the release of a viral video of her criticizing the looks of newly crowned Miss Earth Katherine Espin, the letter itself makes no mention of the incident.

Instead, Imelda says in the letter dated October 31 that she will be going on a trip abroad with her mother, and will thus be unable to perform her duties as Miss Philippines Earth.

Part of the letter goes: “I regret to inform you that I will have to relinquish my Miss Philippines-Earth title effective immediately because my mother wants me to accompany her on an overseas trip and there is no definite date of our return.

“Accordingly, I will not be able to fulfill my obligations as Miss Philippines – Earth indefinitely and so it is just fair to Carousel Productions, Inc that I relinquish my crown so somebody can take over and continue to discharge said obligations.”

Here’s the full letter sent by Imelda and addressed to Carousel executive vice president Lorraine Schuck.

In the said video, which drew much flak for Imelda online, the beauty queen could be seen telling fans after the competition: “Yung nanalo peke ilong, peke baba, peke boobs! Miss Earth, dapat natural.”

(The winner has [a] fake nose, fake chin, fake breasts. Miss Earth, should be natural.)

The release of the viral video after the pageant’s coronation night capped an eventful last leg of the Miss Earth pageant for Imelda. She previously had to apologize for comments made to Miss Austria about Adolf Hitler, and subsequent comments about President Rodrigo Duterte doing “Hitler stuff” in the Philippines.

In an interview with CNN Philippines on Monday, October 31, Imelda had this to say about her video: “If it’s a crime to tell the truth, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to offend Miss Ecuador.”

“I don’t know her enough but she was my roommate,” she added. – Rappler.com
