Ms PH Earth Dipolog City: Liza Rose Dancalan
MANILA, Philippines - In line with the Miss Philippines Earth 2013 pageant's water conservation theme, this 22-year-old volunteer nurse says, "I want safe water and sanitation for all. People still use unsafe drinking water sources coupled with poor hygiene practices which kill thousands of children every day and lead to impoverishment and diminished opportunities for thousands more.
"Without water, sanitation and hygiene, sustainable development is impossible, our optimal well-being will be compromised. We must do our part in improving water supplies and sanitation facilities in schools and communities and promoting safe hygiene practices."
Describe your childhood/growing-up years (8-13 years old):
I have an ordinary yet unique family: a father who is a good provider and a great protector, a loving mother who shows genuine love and care to her family and siblings who show respect to their parents. This is a family with different roles and responsibilities and that puts God in the center of their life and relationship with others.
Most memorable moment:
The time when I graduated from college and the when I became a registered nurse. Despite the difficulties and struggles I have encountered, I can say that I have successfully won one of the battles that life has prepared for me.
What is your environmental advocacy and why did you choose this?
The value of volunteerism is the root of all advocacies in preserving and conserving our ecology. I chose this because each of us must realize that environmental awareness and environmental acts won’t be enough if not all people will engage in it.
