Ms Cebu City is Miss PH-Earth 2014
MANILA, Philippines – Jamie Herrell of Cebu City was crowned Miss Philippines-Earth 2014 on Sunday, May 11, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Herrell will represent the country in this year's Miss Earth, one of the biggest beauty pageants worldwide – the venue and date of which is yet to be announced. (READ: Big 4: The 'Olympics of beauty')
Out of 49 candidates, Herrell caught the judges' eyes and was also named Ms Solaire. The members of her royal court, or runners-up, include:
- Miss Philippines Eco-tourism 2014 - Ms Dinalupihan, Bataan Monique Manuel
- Miss Philippines Earth Fire 2014 - Ms Gapan City Bianca Paz
- Miss Philippines Earth Water 2014 - Ms Dumaguete City Kim Covert
- Miss Philippines Earth Air 2014- Ms Tanauan City Diane Querrer
Other special awards were given out last night including Ms Hana Shampoo which went to Ms Davao Janelle Tee while Ms SM Markets went to Dumaguete's Kimberly Covert.
Long road to the crown
Making it to the coronation night entailed a long journey for the candidates – from swimsuit competitions to seminars on environmental awareness.
Herrell gave an exemplary answer during the question and answer portion. Former Akbayan Representative Risa Hontiveros asked her whether human beings have been good children to Mother Earth.
Herrell answered no as humans are the main cause of Mother Earth's problems.
