Ms PH Earth Mariveles, Bataan: Jenn Gonzales
NAME: Jenn Kristel C. Gonzales
MUNICIPALITY OR CITY: Mariveles, Bataan
How she describes her childhood: My childhood has been filled with so many good memories. There was no instance in which I felt alone because my parents were so caring and loving. Their tender affection and support lingered in my mind and continued to reverberate in my heart. The core values which I have learned from them as I grow old equipped me to face the fast changing world, and which have dispelled fear and uncertainties brought by facing the adolescent life.
My siblings were also very supportive of all the activities I was engaged with. Their presence assured me to proceed and never get tired of going ahead. The love which I have felt from them up to this very moment has taught me to love my fellow beings and is also a manifestation of my love to the Almighty God, Who has sustained me throughout my journey in life.
As I grew up in a small community of Barangay San Carlos, I have learned how heavy the obligation of an ordinary citizen is in relation to the community where one lives. My childhood eyes have seen the cooperation and unity of my town folks the result of which is an obvious accomplishment of their noble endeavors.
Lessons learned from childhood: I learned the values of faithfulness, trust, and respect from the marital relationship of my parents. My parents have also taught me the importance of obedience and discernment, the eminence of close family ties, and most especially, the faith in, and fear of God. The community from which I grew up has taught me how to be a responsible citizen of our country by engaging in civic affairs and volunteering in community activities.
Most memorable moment: The most memorable moment of my life was when I was sent to the United States of America as a cultural exchange student where I spent three months of my life as an on-the-job trainee. There I learned the culture and traditions of the most powerful state in the world, and have seen in them the value and importance they put in time as if it is gold. I was able to share with my immediate environment the rich heritage of the Philippines. I have proven to my superiors the indubitable and unrelenting spirit of a Filipina.
Environmental advocacy: My environmental advocacy is to alleviate poverty through ecotourism in harmony with the millennium development goals set by the United Nations of which the Philippines is a part of.
It is a fact that the Philippines is rich in terms of natural resources. What we have to do is to maximize the use of our environmental reserves and equally distribute the gains in order to eradicate poverty. Such use and maximization of our natural resources should be made with regard to the future generations. Education is of utmost importance so that we could refrain from doing things which will have harmful effects to our ecosystem. With such education, we could inculcate to the consciousness of our citizens the need for protecting our environment so that we could all have a better quality of life. – Rappler.com
