Ms PH Earth Tigbao, Zamboanga del Sur: Jennifer Allego
NAME: Jennifer Kaye N. Allego
MUNICIPALITY OR CITY: Tigbao, Zamboanga Del Sur
How she describes her childhood: My childhood years were the most awesome years in my life. Playing with my childhood friends in their house backyard without asking permission from our parents, playing Pinoy games like siatong, chakay, and tigso, and make fight with my brothers.
Lessons learned from childhood: The lesson I’ve learned from my childhood years was how to value and treasure friendship despite having our own careers. But most importantly, the communication in a ways should be as is.
Environmental advocacy: I’ve always believed that the earth is given as a common property for us men to labor and live in. And what a generous mother the earth is! She provides for us plentiful abundance. She served as our raiment, our house, our parent, and our nurse. But with the recent calamities and tragedies the Philippines is experiencing, that brings forth losses to life, properties, and amenities. We cannot refute the fact that the earth is preserved but in selfish and jealous ways. When are we going to realize that amidst these vast cities and powerful machines, the good earth is still our mother, and if we destroy her, we also destroy ourselves? Looking back at the people in our locality in Tigbao, Zamboanga del Sur, where most of the inhabitants are tribal Filipinos who see the land as a symbol of their historical identity, I was eager to join Miss Philippines-Earth 2014!
It is my prime and foremost advocacy to bring their voice in the preservation of the wild and the land as ancestral heritage. We need to see the reality that if the land is lost, the tribes too, shall be lost. And so, with this advocacy, I dare to become Miss Philippines-Earth 2014, because I know I can make a difference. – Rappler.com
