Ms PH Earth Zamboanga City: Margie Alatan
NAME: Margie Uro Alatan
MUNICIPALITY OR CITY: Zamboanga City
How she describes her childhood: I had a carefree childhood. I have a very boyish personality in the way I dress, speak, and act. I became part of the Girl Scouts of the Philippines and a Taekwondo player during my elementary years. I have been privileged to explore places, being an athlete and a representative of my city for the national level.
Lessons learned from childhood: I learned a lot during my growing years because I became aware of my surroundings as a member of the Girl Scout of the Philippines and as a Taekwondo player. I was exposed and trained to respect everyone, survive by living away from my parents, preserve and protect the environment, be disciplined, and most of all be responsible and accountable as an individual and citizen of the country.
Most memorable moment: The most memorable moment I cherish is when I was crowned as Miss Zamboanga. I had never expected that a simple girl, living a simple life could be Miss Zamboanga. Despite the catastrophes and trials that Zamboanga City has been through─ the pressures undeniable to everyone—this can be a source of hope and inspiration to rise as a city.
Environmental advocacy: My heart is convinced for the protection, preservation and replenishment of the environment, which leads to my Levanta Zamboanga advocacy (in English means “Rise Zamboanga”). It aims to protect, preserve, and replenish the watershed and coastal mangroves. – Rappler.com
