MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – Not everyone is happy about the Philippines’ Pia Wurtzbach’s Miss Universe win. Among them is Miss Germany Sarah-Lorraine Riek and, according to her, other contestants in the pageant.
UPDATE: According to reports, a post on the official Miss Universe Germany Facebook page said Sarah-Lorraine felt sorry for Miss Colombia and that she didn’t mean to offend Pia with her statement.
“She is really sorry if the video suggests anything else than that. It’s an emotional roller coaster what happened yesterday in Las Vegas. She and all the other girls felt so sorry for Colombia at that moment. They could all imagine how this must feel. That’s not the final result moment what you wish for anyone. And also for Pia.
Sara-Lorraine is very happy a half-German girl brings the crown of course to Germany as well! Congrats to our friends of Philippines for winning the crown after all. She wishes Pia all the best for this year as Miss Universe 2015.”
Miss Universe-Germany’s Facebook page has since been taken down.
Meanwhile, the group that handles the Miss Germany pageant said on social media that they don’t handle the Miss Universe Germany representative, and that they don’t share Sarah-Lorraine’s opinion.
The wrote, “Some messages came across [that] we were not too happy to hear about. Some people blamed us for the comment Miss Universe Germany, Sarah-Lorraine Riek, has given. We just want to make clear that THIS STATEMENT does NOT REFLECT OUR POINT OF VIEW – not of the event and of course not of the beautiful winner Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach.
“We are actually crowning Miss Germany only based and organized here in Germany. We are not sending Germany´s delegate to [the] Miss Universe pageant. Hoping for [your] understanding, we really feel sorry for the difficult situation [that] sprang up yesterday night.”
They also congratulated Pia on her win.

In an interview posted on Monday, December 21 on the Facebook page of the pageant website Missosology, Sarah-Lorraine said that she couldn’t believe the turn of events, and that she felt that Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez was robbed of the crown.
“I couldn’t believe it, I was so upset,” said Sarah-Lorraine about the winners announcement mix-up.
During the coronation night on Sunday, December 20 (Monday, December 21 in Manila), host Steve Harvey misread the winners announcement card. After saying that Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez won, he went back onstage, apologizing, and said that it was actually Pia who had won the crown.
Miss Universe 2014 Paulina Vega then took the crown from Ariadna, and passed it on to Pia.
“I was very happy for Colombia actually, she really deserved it, but I’m really not happy with the result and so are the other girls, I’m sorry to say it,” added Sarah-Lorraine.
When asked why the ladies rushed to Ariadna after the announcement instead of to Pia to congratulate her, Germany replied, “Because none of us voted for Philippines. I’m so sorry to say that.”

Germany refused to explain more about her previous statement, but added, “We really like Colombia and we’re really happy for her.”
As of writing, Missosology’s video, titled “Controversial Reaction of Miss Germany,” has been viewed more than 2 million times.
Pia is the 3rd Miss Philippines to win the Miss Universe pageant. Others who won in the past were Margie Moran in 1973 and Gloria Diaz in 1969.
