'National HIV Testing Day is a reminder to get tested and take care of not only yourself, but also the people you love. Start talking and stop the spread of HIV,' Pia says

MANILA, Philippines – Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach reminded the public once again to get themselves tested for HIV on the occasion of National HIV Testing Day, Monday, June 27.

In a video posted on the Miss Universe social media channels, Pia shared that in the US, over a million people are living with HIV/AIDS and the numbers continue to rise. (LOOK: Pia Wurtzbach gets HIV test, speaks on importance of HIV awareness)

“One in 8 people who have HIV don’t even know it yet. Which means, some individuals are receiving the attention and care that they need and deserve to stay healthy and avoid risking others,” she said.

“National HIV Testing Day is a reminder to get tested and take care of not only yourself, but also the people you love. Start talking and stop the spread of HIV.”

“Take that first step. Take control, get tested, know your status. The risk is not knowing,” she added.

According to the Apicha blog, Pia has been an ambassador for the community health center since winning Miss Universe.

Pia has been very vocal about her advocacy for HIV/AIDS awareness since winning the title. Aside from HIV/AIDS awareness, she is also focused on issues such as cyberbullying and disaster relief. – Rappler.com
