MANILA, Philippines – Actress Teresita “Winwyn” Marquez fulfilled her dream of becoming a beauty queen on Sunday, September 3, when she was crowned as the first Reina Hispanoamericana Filipinas during the Miss World Philippines coronation night.

In an interview with reporters after the pageant, Wyn said all the sacrifices – including time off from showbiz – were worth it. (READ: Winwyn Marquez’s family, Mark Herras support her bid for Miss World PH)

“I’m just really happy kasi (because) I’m going to be the first Reina Hispanoamericana Filipinas candidate who’s going to compete. First Filipina who is going to [compete in] Bolivia. And I think I’m going to fly end of October already. So I’m pretty nervous but it’s good na rin na malapit na siya kasi ‘yung momentum ko nandoon pa rin (that it’s already near because my momentum is still there). But I’m still going to train,” she said.

As for the reaction of her family – parents Joey Marquez and Alma Moreno and her siblings – Wyn said all of them were ecstatic when her name was called.

“They were jumping up and down. And ang sarap lang ng feeling na tignan kasi pati sila alam nila kung gaano ako ka-hungry for a crown. And alam nila kung gaano ako nag-training for this night. So when I saw that, sabi ko worth it lahat ng pagod, worth it lahat ng sakit, kasi nagkasakit ako during the pageant also, so worth it lahat. Finally, I have a crown.”

(They were jumping up and down. And it just felt good to see them because they all knew how hungry I was for a crown. And they knew how I trained for this night. So when I saw that, I said all the exhaustion was worth it, all the pain was worth it, because I got sick during the pageant also, so it was all worth it. Finally, I have a crown.)

Wyn is the second in the family to become a beauty queen. Her aunt, actress and model Melanie Marquez, was Miss International 1979.

Aside from her family, Wyn’s boyfriend, actor Mark Herras, was also in the audience to support her. When asked how he reacted to her win, she said: Parang siya ‘yung nanalo ng (It was like he won the) crown… He was here, everyone was here.”

She was also asked if she expected to win any title.

“I joined the pageant not expecting anything. Sabi ko (I said), I’m going to enjoy. I’m going to show people what I’ve got. I’m going to perform and I’m going to show people … that I can answer well, that I’m ready. So God’s will siguro talaga (I guess),” she responded.

The day after the pageant, Wyn also shared her thoughts in an Instagram post, where she thanked her supporters.

“Maraming, maraming salamat po sa lahat ng sumuporta and naniwala sa akin! Hindi po madali ang sasalihan ko pero alam ko kakayanin ko po dahil sa inyo. Laban Pilipinas,”she wrote.

(Thank you so much to everyone who supported me and believed in me! I know the competition I’ll be in won’t be easy but I will do my best for all of you. Let’s go, Philippines.)

On Tuesday, September 5, Wyn wrote that it was still a surreal experience for her to finally have a crown.

I may not have won the top crown but I am still very, very happy with my title. I know I was placed here for a reason,” she said.

Wyn also expressed gratitude to her trainers from Aces and Queens, her friends, and her mom and dad, who she said kept her grounded.

“They don’t know how much you sacrificed for us and this is one way I can say thank you sa inyo (to both of you). My diploma, teaching certificate, and now my crown is for you, Mama and Daddy.”

I wish I had a better photo of my crowning moment but i’ll settle for this one  this moment was so surreal..hindi ko maexplain nararamdaman ko. The only thing that was on my mind was “is this really happening?”  I may not have won the top crown but I am still very very happy with my title. I know I was placed here for a reason. 🙂 though alam ko mahirap ang sasalihan ko and I only have a little time to prepare kakayanin padin! Thank you sa lahat ng naniwala my aces & queens family who guided and trained me so hard i love you guys so much, Francis Libiran who made my gorgeous gown, Pong and Renz for always making me look like a queen, my alma maters San Beda College Alabang and SISC for all the support, my loved ones (mark, my siblings and my friends) who always pushed me to follow my dreams and to never give up and ofcourse to my parents you two made me who I am today..you guys kept me grounded. They dont know how much you sacrificed for us and this is one way I can say thank you sainyo. My Diploma, Teaching Certificate and now my Crown is for you mama and daddy.  Para sa mga pinagdaanan niyo and para sa pagpapalaki saamin ng maayos. • • also, please do not belittle the title just because you don’t know anything about it or dahil ngayon niyo lang narinig and nag ququestion bakit tayo kasali etc.. please try do a little research and try to be open minded bago mag criticize ng sobra.  I am so honored to be the first ever Filipina to join this pageant and i’ll be “Miss Philippines” in Bolivia and doon palang winner na ako.  instead of questioning everything magtulungan nalang tayo para makita ng lahat na BUO ang supporta ng mga pinoy
