‘The Broken Marriage Vow’ to showcase Filipino fashion

Fans now have yet another reason to get excited over the upcoming ABS-CBN series The Broken Marriage Vow. Its makers said that it will showcase Filipino fashion. 

In an “All Access” episode released on Friday, August 6, Connie Macatuno, the series’ director and costume design head, said they are going for an “Urban Pinoy” concept. 

“We’re mixing the global brand and the Filipino luxe brands together and showcase a different way of wearing our Filipino roots, our culture in a different way,” she said. 

In a press statement, ABS-CBN said the leadstars of The Broken Marriage Vow will wear “entirely local” pieces. ABS-CBN touted it as the “first Pinoy teleserye to do so.”

“Matagal ko nang iniisip na makagawa ng isang palabas kung saan gumagamit ng local designs from local designers (I’ve been wanting to make a series that uses local designs from local designers)…. Most of the local designers will be there showcasing their original work. It’s the thing that excites all of us,” Macatuno explained.

The four-minute clip also shares snippets of lead stars Jodi Sta. Maria, Zanjoe Marudo, Sue Ramirez, and other cast members in their official wardrobe for the series.

“We get to wear the barong, the pinya on a daily basis. We get to wear the weaves of different places here in the Philippines, and showcase original works of different designers that have global appeal,” Macatuno said. 

Jilla Sara, a costume designer for the series, said the initiative is meant to “support local and encourage people globally of what Filipinos can do.” 

The Broken Marriage Vow is ABS-CBN’s upcoming Filipino adaptation of the hit BBC series Doctor Foster . It follows the story of Dr. Jill Ilustre (Sta. Maria), a successful doctor whose marriage is on the verge of collapse as she suspects her husband David Ilustre (Marudo) of having an affair.

Jane Oineza, Susan Africa, Ronnie Lazaro, Empress Schuck, Bianca Manalo, Rachel Alejandro, Angeli Bayani, Joem Bascon, and Art Acuña are also part of the cast. (READ: Meet the full cast of ‘The Broken Marriage Vow’)
