@FranklinDrilon and @ConradoDeQuiros have fooled many Twitter users

DON'T RETWEET. @ConradoDeQuiros and @FranklinDrilon are fake Twitter accounts

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) – Following @FranklinDrilon and @ConradoDeQuiros? It might be best to hit the unfollow button.

The two Twitter accounts have been posting tweets supposedly by the Liberal Party stalwart and the Inquirer columnist. It turns out they are both fake.

Senator Franklin Drilon’s media officer Jeeno Arellano told Rappler that the account does not belong to his boss.

“Nope, fake po yun (it’s fake). He doesn’t own a Twitter account,” Arellano said in a text message.

Drilon later released a statement reiterating that he owns no Twitter account.

“I do not use Twitter to communicate and express my thoughts and issue statements. I have other means to do that. I ask the public, especially the media, to ignore and treat as fake any statement being issued via Twitter bearing my name, and refrain from using the site to produce story,” Drilon said.

@FranklinDrilon has 142 followers. A recent tweet concerning Drilon’s colleague, the controversial Senate Majority Leader Vicente “Tito” Sotto III was even retweeted 55 times as of posting time.

The Twitter account’s bio goes, “Chairman of the Liberal Party and a Senior Counsel of the ACCRA Law Offices.” He is not the real deal.

‘De Quiros’ blocked daughter

De Quiros’ daughter, journalist Miranda de Quiros of ABS-CBN, also called out @ConradoDeQuiros.

“This poser, @ConradoDeQuiros has fooled a lot of people on Twitter and Facebook,” tweeted Miranda.

@ConradoDeQuiros has been responding to tweets of colleagues and friends of the real De Quiros.

This is not the first and the last time Filipino users were fooled by fake Twitter accounts, with only a few local users being verified by Twitter.

Earlier this week, Twitter user @PhivolcsPH also pretended to be the official twitter account of the Philippine Volcanology and Seismology.

The account was created amid a demand for information on a 7.6 quake that hit the Pacific Ocean last week. The agency’s website has been crashing. Phivolcs though plans to open an official Twitter account soon.

Careful who you follow and retweet, folks. – Rappler.com
