MANILA, Philippines – It was awesome, awful and a little bit awkward. August is finally over. As we head into the “-ber” months — the unofficial start of the Philippine holiday season — let’s take a look at some of the most memorable moments of the past month.

Whether we like it or not, Oxford has officially added this word to the dictionary: Twerk. It was added shortly after Miley Cyrus’ raunchy MTV Video Music Awards performance.

Issues of corruption, controversy and scandal aren’t new to this country, but the pork barrel scam triggered an anger like no other. In a social media driven movement, thousands of infuriated — mostly middle class — people gathered at Luneta Park on Monday, August 26, in what was dubbed the #MillionPeopleMarch.

What else is left to do when things get this ridiculous? Laugh!

Perfect timing. Saturday, August 31, was International Pork Day. For the past week, all eyes were on no less than the “Pork Barrel Queen” herself, Janet Napoles.

“Selfie” was another word added to the Oxford Dictionary. Pope Francis had one taken of himself with a group of teens, and it went viral.

A panda lover sent this one in. Have you ever seen a brown and white one before? Little Qizai is only one of 5 brown pandas discovered since 1985, according to China’s Xinhua news.

*NSYNC fans rejoiced when the ’90s boy band reunited and performed together at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards after not performing together for several years.

It was a moment short lived, but one that will live on in the hearts of their fans forever.
