Rap battles, comedy, and the Philippines' YouTube video makers
MANILA, Philippines - If you're looking for entertaining YouTube viewing to pass the time, there's no better way to go about it than to see some local YouTube video makers showing off their talents.
VidStatsX, a Youtube statistics website, has a list of Youtube's 100 most viewed video producers in the Philippines, and according to their statistics, the Philippine video producer with the most video views is a rap battle channel called Fliptopbattles.
This channel, formally known as the FlipTop Battle League, has over 238 million views and 269 videos in its repository. The channel features organized word wars between two individuals akin to the rap battles in other countries.
The main draw and diference between FlipTop battles and other rap battle formats is the lack of a beat to follow. While the lyrics can be explicit and the words used vulgar, the object of FlipTop Battles is to stylishly debunk your opponent's claims with your own rhyme, much like a "Balagtasan" debate rather than a musical battle.
Comedy shows, Philippine musicians and news outlets with online components are also part of the top 10 Philippine video channels. The comic duo Moymoy Palaboy ranks second with over 152 million views despite having only 70 videos. Byron F. Garcia's dancing inmates, on the other hand, come in at third with over 134 million views across 50 videos.
Two of ABS-CBN's Youtube channels, TheABSCBNNews and ABSCBNOnline, are ranked 7th and 10th, respectively. GMA News' Youtube channel has the 8th spot in the rankings as well. - Rappler.com
