MANILA, Philippines – Temple Run 2 is grabbing all the attention these days.

Released for iOS last January 17, the game became the top free app on the iTunes App 8 hours after release. Then on January 21, four days since launch, the game’s developers Imangi Studios announced Temple Run 2 had been downloaded more than 20 million times.

The game will be available for Android via the Google Play Store starting Thursday, January 24, 2012.

While the game is free, Temple Run 2 is also now the third-highest grossing application in the iTunes App store thanks to available in-app purchases. Users can purchase coins to buy upgrades and gems which can be used to keep on playing if your player dies. This system replaces resurrection angel wings power ups available in the original Temple Run.

Keith Shepherd, co-founder of Imangi Studios, finds the response “overwhelming.”

Of the clamor for Temple Run, Shepherd writes, “We are thrilled players want more of the Temple Run universe, and we hope to grow and expand the game over the coming months.”

We review Temple Run 2 in TechRap episode 13.
