MANILA, Philippines – Microsoft announced it will be updating Internet Explorer 10 on Windows 8 and Windows RT, allowing Flash content to be run by default.

The decision seems to have been based on a growing number of Flash-enabled sites that do not play well with the new version of Windows. According to the announcement, “the vast majority of sites with Flash content are now compatible with the Windows experience for touch, performance, and battery life.”

The announcement notes that “fewer than 4%” of Flash content remains incompatible, primarily due to other ActiveX requirements in addition to Flash.

The update, which will go live on March 13, will also enable a curated Compatibility View (CV) list, blocking Flash content in some sites that remain incompatible with touch-based Windows or that depend on other plug-ins, such as the above-mentioned ActiveX. The desktop version of IE10 on Windows 8 will be the only version of IE10 that will run all Flash content. – Rappler.com
