Google releases the technical specifications and development API for Google Glass

MANILA, Philippines – Google has released the technical specifications and developer application programming interface (API) of its wearable computing product, the Google Glass.

Noteworthy among the Glass’ tech specs are the camera specifications, which can take 5 megapixel photos and 720p video, and the high resolution display, which offers an equivalent viewing experience to watching a 25-inch high-definition screen from 8 feet away.

In terms of storage space, the Glass will take advantage of 16GB of memory (12GB usable memory), which can be synced with Google cloud storage.

A full charge of the device will allow it to last as long as a full day with typical use, though it notes that video recording and Google Hangouts will eat up more power.

Concurrently with this announcement, Google also put up a page with the developer API guidelines for Google Glass, offering guides for app development as well as best practices to allow for fewer problems with using the API.

TechCrunch adds that Google “will ship out in batches to the 2,000 ‘Glass Explorers’ who signed up at Google’s I/O developer conference in San Francisco last year.”

These early adopters will receive an email notifying them of their eligibility to purchase the Google Glass Explorer Edition for $1,500. – Rappler.com
