MANILA, Philippines – YouTube announced some new milestones of growth to celebrate 8 years of being online.

A blogpost on Sunday, May 19, outlined two significant signs of YouTube’s growth in 2013: an increase in the amount of video data their site has had to process and a notable number of monthly visitors.

First, more than 100 hours of video are now uploaded to YouTube every minute. The Next Web notes that users of the site put up 48 hours of video per minute in 2011, and 72 hours were put up per minute in 2012

Second, more than 1 billion people come to YouTube every month to watch videos of all sorts, whether it’s programs that inform, or shows that entertain.

For 2013, YouTube is hoping to capitalize on its popularity by providing users with subscription-based channels starting at US$0.99 a month. The rollout is limited to a number of partner channels, and isn’t a worldwide effort as of yet, but it should be an interesting exercise in monetizing quality content. – Rappler.com
