MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – While Sony announced the PlayStation 4 back in February, the actual design of the console itself, as well as pricing and availability, was left up in the air.

On Monday, June 10 (June 11 Philippine time), Sony gave fans the first glimpse of the PlayStation 4 console’s physical body, as well as a number of announcements for the future of the PlayStation brand.

On the PS Vita side, Sony confirmed a number of remastered classics for the handheld. These include God of War, God of War II, Final Fantasy X and X-2, Flower, and Dead Nation.

PlayStation 3 games shown or announced at the event include:

• The Last of Us
• Puppeteer
• Rain
• Beyond: Two Souls
• Gran Turismo 6
• Batman: Arkham Origins, and
• Grand Theft Auto V

The reveal of the PlayStation 4 console also coincided with the show of a number of games, including three notable titles from Square Enix, who noticeably said little during the original February reveal.

Square Enix revealed Final Fantasy Versus XIII as the latest Final Fantasy, being redubbed Final Fantasy XV. The company also showed a teaser for Kingdom Hearts 3 and confirmed the release of PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 versions of Final Fantasy XIV, their online iteration of the Final Fantasy Franchise.

At the event, Sony also announced a unique programming plan available for the PlayStation with entertainment tailored for gamers, as well as Music Unlimited and Video Unlimited services for the PlayStation 4. Both of these services will reportedly be available at launch, with 150,000 video releases and 20 million releases available. No mention has been given regarding regional restrictions as of publishing time.

Among the AAA titles announced or demonstrated at the PlayStation 4 include:

• The Order: 1886
• Killzone: Shadow Fall (launch title)
• Drive Club (launch title)
• Infamous: Second Son (planned for Q1 2014)
• Knack (launch title)
• The Dark Sorcerer 
• Diablo 3 (PS3 and PS4)
• Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag
• Watch Dogs
• Destiny

Independent game developers were also represented at the press conference, with confirmation of self-publishing for indie developers and the following games on show, debuting on the PS4:

• Transistor
• Mercenary Kings
• Octodad
• Secret Ponchos
• Ray’s the Dead
• Outlast
• Oddworld: New and Tasty (remake of first Oddworld game)
• Galak-Z

Also announced were Mad Max and The Elder Scrolls Online for the PS4.

To cap off the event, Jack Tretton publicly announced that the PlayStation 4 will not restrict used game sales. PlayStation 4 games do not need to be connected online to play or for any type of authentication checks. This was also featured as a short video (shown below) illustrating the ease with which game owners can trade or share their games.

PlayStation Plus memberships will also carry over from PS3s and PS Vitas to PS4 units and, as Polygon notes, is required for multiplayer online gaming. PlayStation Plus subscriptions cost US$17.99 for 3 months, US$49.99 for a year, or US$9.99 for single-month subscriptions.

The PlayStation 4 will be available for US$399, 399 Euros, and 349 pounds this holiday season.- Rappler.com
