MANILA, Philippines – An upgraded version of Google Maps is now available to everyone, whether you’re on an Android or iOS device, or on your computer via the web app.

As reported on July 11, Google Maps was updated for Android devices with new features and a number of tweaks. The updates were also available on the Google Maps app, but it was then primarily by invitation.

As of this writing, the web app is available for everyone to try without the need for an invitation.

Upgraded iPhone and iPad apps are also available on the App Store.

The updates for Google Maps include an improved exploration feature, allowing users to search for actual places near a given location, such as restaurants, parks, and shopping malls, and see ratings for them as curated and integrated into the search function. Turn-by-turn navigation and multiple map viewing modes are now also supported.

The iPad version, like the version for Android tablets, has a dedicated tablet design for large-screen viewing.

Mashable notes that there are two ways to access the upgraded Google Maps feature on the web. The first is by accessing the desktop section of the new Google Maps “About” page, and then clicking on “Try Now” to preview the new version. Users of the old Google Maps can also click on the “Get the new Google Maps” on the left-hand side of the application. – Rappler.com
