MANILA, Philippines – Retweeting offensive tweets may be the best way to stop them, a TV presenter in United Kingdom learned.

Broadcaster and academic Mary Beard was able to silence her troll shortly after she retweeted his offensive tweet. The troll, a certain Oliver Rawlings, was castigated by Beard’s followers. He quickly apologized for the “error of his ways.”

In his tweet, Rawlings made offensive sexual comments against Beard and called her a “filthy old slut,” The Guardian reported.

One offered to give Beard the address of Rawling’s mother.

The Twitter handle Rawlings used to troll Beard could no longer be found. But screenshots of the tweets were posted on the Internet.

“It is a tough call. I have increasingly opted for name and shame. It has to be outed. And maybe his friends can say ‘stop,'” Beard told the Guardian.

It’s not the first time Beard was abused by trolls. The Guardian also reported the “truly vile” attacks she suffered last January after she appeared on TV expressing doubts on stories that immigration puts strains on public services. — Rappler.com
