BlackBerry blogs about the reasons behind halting the rollout of BlackBerry Messenger for iOS and Android

DELAYS EXPLAINED. BlackBerry's head for BlackBerry Messenger Andrew Bocking explains why the company is delaying the BBM rollout on iOS and Android. Screen shot from BlackBerry

MANILA, Philippines – Following BlackBerry’s weekend announcement that it would temporarily halt the rollout of BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) due to a leaked version for Android going online, a recent post says the company doesn’t expect the continued rollout to occur this week.

On the company’s blog, BlackBerry’s BBM head Andrew Bocking explained how the issue was affecting BlackBerry and BBM users.

According to Bocking, the unreleased BBM for Android version that was posted on file sharing sites had an issue: “This older version resulted in volumes of data traffic orders of magnitude higher than normal for each active user and impacted the system in abnormal ways.”

He adds that the release version addressed the issues that the leaked version had, but BlackBerry couldn’t block the leaked version without halting the rollout.

BlackBerry’s team is working to adjust the system and block the leaked Android version. He adds, “We are also making sure that the system is reinforced to handle this kind of scenario in the future.”

Sadly, such system changes would take time. Bocking also announced that they may not continue the rollout of BBM this week, asking people for their patience and to check the BlackBerry website and blog for updates. – Rappler.com
