MANILA, Philippines – Thanks to some help from the Aboitiz Foundation, 3 Lapu-Lapu Science and Technology Education Center (STEC) teams will be heading to the World Robotics Olympiad in Jakarta, Indonesia from November 13 to 18.

The 3 Lapu-Lapu STEC teams were among 20 who placed in the 12th Philippine Robotics Olympiad held at SM City North Edsa in Quezon City from September 2 to 4.

The robotics teams competed in the High School and Grade School categories. The high school team is composed of Syrum Quinto, Kent Tiu, and Keenu Manayon, while the elementary teams are composed of Joshua Obierez, Natasha Cabanillas, Jose Manuel Gaquit, Aaron Antonio, Brian Ciriaco, and Carla Castillo. The teams are coached by Mr. Donald B. Dungog and Engr. Jonathan J. Cartilla.

The High School level regular category, which the Lapu-Lapu high school STEC team won first place in, was titled “Making Robots to Preserve the Cultural Heritage”. The elementary level STEC teams garnered 3rd and 4th place in their category, titled “Making Robots to Complete a Racetrack with Obstacles.”
