Facebook returns from a brief series of site use issues

BACK UP. Facebook chalks up their site issues to maintenance.

MANILA, Philippines – Facebook is back to 100% operation following a few hours of site issues that left users without the ability to use certain functions, such as posting new status updates or sharing pictures and links.

At around 8 pm Monday, October 21, a large number of users around the world were unable to use various functions of Facebook. Around this time, Facebook’s Developer Status page noted a spike in the number of error reports, as well as a slowing down of the site’s responsiveness.

The site issues and the lack of communication from Facebook left its users wondering what had happened to the social network.

Mashable reports that Facebook sent a response to requests for comment at 4:43 am Tuesday, October 22, Philippine time. The company attributed the site’s erratic behavior to maintenance-related issues.

Facebook’s statement reads: “Earlier this morning, while performing some network maintenance, we experienced an issue that prevented some users from posting to Facebook for a brief period of time. We resolved the issue quickly, and we are now back to 100%. We’re sorry for any inconvenience we may have caused.” – Rappler.com
