A Singapore Minute (Part 5 of 5): When in Tiong Bahru

SINGAPORE – Tiong Bahru was a pleasant discovery. The first public housing estate to be built in the country, it seamlessly combines the old and the new.  

Walking is encouraged. Tiong Bahru is dotted with murals, most prominent of which is a trio that depicts Singapore of yore. Painted in his distinct style, local artist Yip Yew Chong or YC makes exploring the area welcoming and immersive.

When the urge to eat occurs, head to the second floor of Tiong Bahru Market where one of the better-known hawker centers is located. Among the stalls, you will find two Bib Gourmand hawker stalls: Hong Feng Fried Sotong Prawn Mee  (fried Hookien noodles) and Tiong Bahru Hainanese Boneless Chicken Rice (Hainanese Chicken Rice). – Rappler.com
