Rain slows metro traffic, strands commuters

MANILA, PHILIPPINES – Heavy rains slowed down the flow of Metro Manila traffic and stranded passengers late Thursday afternoon, September 10, just when students and employees were about to leave for the day. (READ: #FloodPH alert: Thunderstorms affect Metro Manila, nearby provinces)

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) was reporting moderate to heavy traffic in several areas along EDSA and C5 until Thursday night.

Reports on social media also showed passengers waiting patiently in line for a public utility vehicle to ride. On the Faecbook group R.A.C.E.R (Riders Anti-Crime & Emergency Response), a netizen reported that hundreds of commuters were stranded near the MRT-Shaw station at about 8:30 pm.

Earlier, netizens along Pasong Tamo reported that water was knee-deep in that area, causing traffic. Heavy traffic was reported southbound on C5, while Guadalupe northbound traffic was also heavy due to the downpour.

Ayala and Buendia Avenues in Makati were also reported to be experiencing heavy traffic.

The Marikina Public Information Office reported that some streets were not passable to light vehicles.

Over in Manila, James Jimenez of the Commission on Elections tweeted that he was only able to reach the National Museum from his office, despite 50 minutes having elapsed.
