#StoryOfTheNation: How does APEC affect the Filipino people?
Join the campaign and help illustrate the story of the nation through various creative expressions!

MANILA, Philippines – What do Filipinos know about the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC)?

For the first time in nearly two decades, it is the Philippines’ turn to host 20 other APEC leaders for the region’s most high-level business event. From November 12 to 19, Manila will be the venue of a series of meetings gathering key people in global politics, business, and diplomacy.

To prepare for the event, the country has cancelled flights, closed roads, and suspended classes and and work. The three-year long preparation for hosting the APEC also came with a price tag of P9.8 billion ($208 million).

That is the bigger picture of the much-anticipated bussiness event.

But what is the story of the everyday Filipino in the context of the APEC 2015? How are they affected by the gathering?

We want to hear from you. We want to create a collective and visual narrative of the the APEC as told by Filipinos around the country.

Join the campaign and help illustrate the story of the nation through various creative expressions.

Here’s how:

Step 1: What is the story of the nation?

Are you a photographer, creative artist, or videographer?

If you’re a photogarpher or videographer, armed with your camera or phone, talk to the members of your community – everyday Filipinos who just want to earn a decent living and have a happy family.

Ask what they know about APEC. How is it affecting them? Or, if given the chance, what would they tell the national leaders visiting the country for the economic summit?

Record their answers and other basic details, like their name and profession.

If you’re a creative artist, think about the best way to visualize the story of the nation through graphics, posters, or comic strips.

Step 2: Express!

Take a picture of your subjects or start your work.

If you’re taking a photo or video of your subject, it’s best to take them within their natural environment or in a situation that says something about who they are.

Take note that the subjects do not always need to smile or look at the camera.

Step 3: Submit!
