Sogo Group donates outdoor exercise equipment to UP Diliman
Seesaws and arm push-up machines can be used at the College of Science and the Department of Military Science and Tactics complexes

MANILA, Philippines – In a bid to promote healthier lifestyle to the country’s top scholars, the Sogo Group of Hotels, as part of its corporate social responsibility, donated outdoor exercise equipment to UP Diliman, the university announced Tuesday, January 5.

UP Diliman Chancellor Michael Tan and Vice Chancellor for Community Relations Nestor Castro formally received the donation during a simple handover ceremony at Quezon Hall on December 11, 2015.

“(We) know that there are a lot of people exercising here. A few of us (from the Sogo group) are from UP. It was something that we really wanted and we’re happy that it pushed through,” said Ignacio Jimenez, chairman of the Sogo Group.

Forty units of the outdoor exercise equipment have been placed in accessible locations throughout the UP Diliman campus.

Of these, single and double seesaws, elliptical machines, and arm push-up machines can be used at the College of Science and the Department of Military Science and Tactics complexes.

Dormitories, the UP College of human Kinetics, and the children’s playground near the PAUW-UP Child Study Center will also be recipients of the new equipment.

Sue Geminiano, marketing manager of the Sogo Hotel Group, said that they “are grateful that we are able to help the community in terms of developing physical fitness and sportsmanship.” – Lou Gepuela/Rappler.com
