MANILA, Philippines – When Sri Lestari was 23, she lost her feet in a vehicular accident. Others said she was lucky her life was spared.
For 10 years Sri struggled with depression, refusing to leave her house. She was paralyzed chest down, confined to a wheelchair.
Until one day she got a new lease on life. “When I got my modified motorcycle, my life changed,” she said.
Now, Sri goes on bike rides across Indonesia to inspire other differently abled individuals. She rides more than a thousand kilometers from Indonesian capital Jakarta to vacation hotspot Bali to show “people with disabilities in Indonesia can live free, independent, productive and happy lives”.
Her newfound zest for life led her to volunteer for United Cerebral Palsy Wheels for Humanity. She spends time with others with mobility issues to show – and inspire – them that there are no limits, even for the differently abled.
