#Tagaligtas: National mourning for SAF 44
MANILA, Philippines – On January 25, a total of 44 men from the Philippine National Police Special Action Force (SAF) were killed in combat in Mamasapano, Maguindanao, during a law enforcement operation in pursuit of terrorists.
At the time of this publication many facts are coming to light, pointing to the possibility the bloodbath on a field in a Mindanao could have been avoided, may have been aggravated, and could have been the result of failures on both sides of the battle zone.
We understand that silence is consent, and so we will continue in our pursuit of the truth.
We mourn with a country that dreams of peace. We will remember the 44, not as numbers on a casualty list, but as the faces of fathers, brothers, husbands and sons.
These are their names.
In these changing times, courage and clarity become even more important.
