#MoveManila trends on Twitter

MANILA, Philippines – Rappler’s “Social media for social change chat series” stirred up ripples on Twitter on Thursday, January 12, with hashtag #MoveManila landing third among topics trending for the Philippines.

Held at The Far Eastern University (FEU) in the City of Manila, #MoveManila was attended by over 1,500 students and professors, not just from the FEU but also from other prominent universities in the National Capital Region.

The audience also included soldiers, diplomats, bloggers and journalists.

The event is the third of a series of forums on the same theme. Earlier ones were held in the cities of Baguio and Davao.

It also served as the first public unveiling of Rappler.com, the new home of Rappler and Move.PH online.

Organized by Move.PH, the citizen journalism arm of Rappler, the event encouraged participants to use Facebook, Twitter, and other social media to change society for the better.

Speakers included Rappler CEO and executive editor Maria Ressa, Al-Jazeera English lead presenter Veronica Pedrosa, and Probe host and Rappler editor-at-large Cheche Lazaro.

Aside from the FEU, Rappler’s partners for #MoveManila are the Konrad Adenauer Center for Journalism at the Ateneo, the Philippine Fulbright Scholars Association, the Philippine Association of Communication Educators and Sun Cellular.  – Rappler.com
