They fought for the love that knows no gender

MANILA, Philippines — Twenty one years ago the country’s LGBT community commemorated the Stonewall riots with its first Pride March protesting the E-VAT and oil price increases.

Today, the protests continue not just against social and economic injustices but for love that knows no gender.

Behind the costumes, performances, and the fancy parade of the Pride March, it wouldn’t be difficult to notice a few of the most innocent, and intimate encounters:

How sweet it is to hold the hand of someone who holds your heart;

To lean on someone who will shelter your body;

To kiss someone who will kiss you back with the same passion;

And who will speak love without saying the words I love you.

How lovely it would be to display your affection to someone who you know deserves it, without shame and without judgment from the rest of society.

One thing about hiding these feelings, although there is that thrill of doing something different, it sucks.

Today, I will hold you because you are mine and I am not afraid of it.

Today, I will kiss you because my lips could do more than say I love you.

Today, I will stand beside you because you are willing to stand right next to me.

Today, I will fight for you, because I know we deserve it.

Love is love and there should be no shame in showing it.

The power of the unspoken language is strong.

Not only it can go to an extent of stopping revolutions like the Tank Man in Tiananmen Square, but also with innocent gestures, be enough to fill one’s heart with confidence, affection, love and power one needs.

Who are we to judge and deprive others of these feelings?

#FightForLove, whatever that kind of love that is. Love should always win. –Rappler.com
