Move Awards 2016: What’s in store for winners?

Alecs Ongcal

Know of a millennial who is making a difference in his or her community? Nominate them for the Move Awards by September 16

MANILA, Philippines – If you know anyone, aged 18 to 35 years old, who deserves to be recognized for their achievements and contribution to their communities, nominate them for the 2016 Move Awards.

Move winners are industry leaders from all walks of life. “These movers took an idea, an emotion, and built a community. These are the movers you chose. These are the movers you believe can move our world,” Maria Ressa said of the previous winners during last year’s finals night.

Expand your network

This year, we want to recognize millennials – the generation who dominates the local workforce, who considers social media their native language, and who will shape the future of the Philippines as the next wave of political and civic leaders. They’re the ones who become a positive influence for others, whatever it is they choose to do – whether it’s campaigning for an advocacy, harnessing technology, or simply being outstanding in their craft.

This year’s awardees have more to look forward to, as Rappler will provide the following benefits:

  • All shortlisted finalists will be featured on Rappler during the public vote phase. Their company, cause, and projects will be highlighted as well
  • Winners will get the chance to have their work featured in-depth via profiles on Rappler
  • Invitation to speak to members of the Move.PH network, during workshops and other events
  • Exclusive mentorship and networking opportunities courtesy of Rappler, as well as access to our upcoming events
  • P10,000 for their chosen organization or cause

Selection process

Phase 1: The public nomination phase is ongoing until September 16. You can nominate anyone aged 18-35 in the following categories:

  • The Civic Mover – An advocate who has helped shape perspectives of a community or a group to inspire change.
  • The Creative Mover – An artist with the passion and drive to spread an advocacy using any medium available to them.
  • The Earth Mover – One who is a proponent of environmental rights and empowers others to take action for its sustainability and protection.
  • The Digital Mover – An innovation-minded individual who utilizes technology to develop and spread ideas to bring about progress in society.
  • The Industry Mover – Whether as a business owner or a vital company member, corporate or socio-civic, this person uplifts and empowers others to excel at what they do.

Phase 2: Panel selection: A panel of judges will vet and score all nominations based on the following criteria:

Social Good (20%)

The ideal Mover is able to generate real-world impact on people and communities through his/her work and commitment. The impact of the Mover is tangible and clearly benefits the people and the environment around him/her.

Gamechanger (20%)

The ideal Mover is an innovator and a game changer. He/she does more with less and comes up with ideas and programs that initiates change and engage communities. He/she also challenges others to go beyond their comfort zones and rethink tradition and convention.

Sustainability (15%)

The ideal Mover is not just a flash-in-the-pan kind of person. He/she is able to transform short-term gains into long-term wins. His/her work will continue to live on long after he/she is gone.

Move Spirit (10%)

The ideal Mover is a leader and a catalyst for greater things. He/she gets things done and inspires others to do the same. If there’s one thing that unites all Movers, it’s the inability to accept things as they are and possessing the strong desire to make the world a better place.

Three finalists will be chosen for each criteria.

Phase 3: Public Vote: From October 10 to November 2, anyone with a social media account can vote for their chosen finalist. The nominees’ public vote ranking will be converted to 40% of their final score.

After the public vote, the panel’s score will comprise 60% of the nominees’ final score.

The winners will be announced on November 11.
