Filipino suspected of shooting wife, 2 others in Maryland

MANILA, Philippines – Police in Montgomery County in Maryland, United States arrested a law enforcement officer from the Federal Protective Service suspected of fatally shooting his wife and two others in multiple shootings on Thursday and Friday, May 5 and 6.

Filipino Eulalio Tordil, 62, was arrested 2:50 pm Friday, after he was linked to the shooting of 4 victims at two separate shopping centers that day. Two of the 4 victims died, the Washington Post reported.

Police said Tordil also shot and killed his estranged wife Gladys Tordil Thursday, in the parking lot of High Point High School in Beltsville, Prince George’s County in Maryland.

She was in the school to pick up her children when Tordil shot her multiple times in her car. He also shot a bystander who tried to intervene. The man was taken to a hospital, although his injury was not considered life-threatening.

The Washington Post said his wife went to court in March to plead for protection against him. She alleged that Tordil – who also served 15 years in the Army reserve – used violence against her, and subjected his stepdaughters to “intense-military-like discipline”.

The Federal Protective Service then stripped Tordil of his gun and badge, and placed him on administrative leave.

Detectives from the Prince George’s County Police Homicide Unit have already charged Tordil of first-degree murder and other related charges for shooting his wife on Thursday, and assault for shooting the bystander who helped her.
