OFW in UAE arrested for killing fellow Filipino worker
MANILA, Philipipines – An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was arrested by police in Dubai on Tuesday, August 11.
The suspect was arrested in a labor camp in Zone 7, according to news site Emirates 247. The names of the suspect and victim were not released.
Police told the media that the suspect confessed to the crime, but did not release the motive of the murder publicly. Authorities say the victim and suspect were co-workers.
According to the same news site, the suspect was planning to hide in Dubai before fleeing to the Philippines.
The United Arab Emirates is a destination country for many overseas Filipino workers. According to the government data, at least 700,000 Filipinos live and work in the UAE, 450,000 of whom are living in Dubai.
As of 2014, there are at least 300 other Filipinos jailed in the UAE for various crimes.
