MovePH, AIESEC Philippines partner for #PHVote
'We see in AIESEC Philippines a group of young Movers who are committed to developing the country through social enterprise, good governance, and youth involvement,' says MovePH director Zak Yuson

MANILA, PHILIPPINES – Rappler’s citizen journalism arm, MovePH, and AIESEC in the Philippines signed a partnership last July 10 to collaborate on youth involvement and empowerment in the upcoming 2016 elections.

The two organizations will be working together on #PHVote, Rappler’s year-long campaign for 100% voter’s turnout come May 2016. Through #PHVote, both organizations aim to facilitate online and offline platforms for discussions on issues to be tackled in 2016 and beyond, and what kind of leader the Philippines will need as a result.

AIESEC Philippines will be primarily responsible in engaging young Filipino voters, with Rappler in charge of online conversations & on-the-ground workshops.

AIESEC is an international, youth-run organization that is dedicated to developing, enabling and advocating world-class and global leadership for the Philippines. Through their experiential leadership development platforms, AIESEC works with the youth, business, civil society, and government, in developing leadership skills, values and mindset relevant to solving the country’s most pressing issues.

The organization is currently present in 20 schools and counting. It has spearheaded multiple community projects around the Philippines, and has delivered over a thousand leadership experiences since it was founded in the country. It most recently spearheaded Youth Leadership Month, a nationwide campaign for youth leadership for the Philippines.

The partnership aims to engage the Filipino youth in deciding what issues they believe need to be addressed in the next 6 years. The partnership also aims to not only empower the youth to choose what kind of leader they want for the country, but to empower them, as well, in deciding that this leadership can begin and be developed within themselves.

This will be achieved through community workshops facilitated by Rappler on social media reporting for #PHVote and online photo campaigns in late 2015. In January 2016, AIESEC and Rappler will spearhead a month-long series of Youth-to-Government Forums, fostering a collaborative and solutions-oriented environment for the youth to contribute to good governance.

“MovePH believes that in order to create lasting social change, we need strong communities and advocates. We see in AIESEC Philippines a group of young Movers who are committed to developing the country through social enterprise, good governance, and youth involvement,” MovePH director Zak Yuson said.

“We are more than honored to be Move.PH’s official arm for youth leadership development,” says Bea Luna, Vice President at AIESEC in the Philippines.

“We believe that now more than ever, the youth are a powerful force in deciding what direction the Philippines will go for the next six years. Because of that, we hope to show through this partnership that the leadership they fight for begins within themselves, with their own initiative. We are happy to have MovePH as our partner in spreading this message in light of the 2016 elections.”

MovePH executive director Rupert Ambil signed the Memorandum of Understanding for Rappler while AIESEC Philippines was represented by its Vice President for Advocacy and Community Engagement, Bea Luna, and President Ton Sewell.

“This partnership will help us reach more youth through social media and on ground activities. We’re excited to work closely with AIESEC Philippines as we roll out our #TheLeaderIWant Campaign to get young voters to exercise their right to choose the nation’s leaders,” added Yuson. – Rappler.com
