CONVERSATION: #LoveIsLove and DOMA
MANILA, Philippines - It was a day gay rights activist have been waiting for.
On June 26, the United States Supreme Court (US SC) declared as unconstitutional the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) which defines marriage as between a man and a woman.
In a separate decision, the US SC also repealed Prop 8, allowing same-sex marriages in the state of California to continue.
The two rulings are a step forward for the LGBT movement.
On Thursday, June 27, Rappler hosts an online conversation on DOMA, Prop 8, and the impact of the decision on gay and civil rights all over the world. How will this affect the LGBT movement in the Philippines, for example?
The conversation starts 11:30am (Manila time). Join us by using the hashtag #LoveIsLove on Twitter or Facebook!
