Do today's modern women need to be defined by their age? Join the conversation with #proudofmyage.

MANILA, Philippines – A woman is like fine wine. She simply gets better with age.

For women, becoming older comes with a slew of advantages, such as gaining the different experiences they go through in each stage of their lives, earning milestones, learning lessons, and overcoming challenges.

Today’s modern women are more independent and empowered. They are less shy in telling others about their opinions, aspirations, and achievements. But when it comes to their real age, their lips are sealed.

A woman’s age is often an elusive number, a figure she would rather conceal than share with others.

This leads to certain questions: Why is being young such a big deal? Why do many women exert much effort in preserving their youth while neglecting the many benefits of becoming older? How can women learn to look forward to the wisdom and experience that come with age?

For our next Rappler Hangout, in partnership with Olay Philippines, we invite female guests, each in different stages of their lives, to discuss the issues brought about by aging and why today’s women should be proud of whatever age they are right now.

This Hangout will be moderated by Ana P. Santos, 38, a health journalist, a sexual health advocate, and proud of her age.

Today’s guests:

Nicole Curato, a sociologist, and currently a post-doctoral research fellow at the Centre for Deliberative Democracy and Global Governance at the Australian National University. She was formerly an assistant professor of sociology at the University of the Philippines.

Michelle Ressa-Aventajado, a Filipina-American who grew up in New York. When she’s not busy raising her four children, she enjoys teaching, reading and writing about her passions. She blogs at Momma ‘N Manila, documenting her adventures and growth in parenting.

Giselle Töngi-Walters, 35, an actress, host, model, and a mother of two. She also contributes for Rappler.

Isabel Garcia, 25, a teacher at MINT College and a writer at Everyday Isa

This goes LIVE on Tuesday, October 8 at 4 pm.

Hang out with the guests by tuning in on this page and join us in this conversation on Twitter using the hashtag #proudofmyage.
