DBM will release P2.8B to build 512 regional health units, 363 barangay health stations, 147 district hospitals and 20 provincial hospitals

MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Budget and Management has released P2.8-B to the Department of Public Works and Highways for the construction, renovation and upgrade of hospitals and rural health centers across the country.

The amount will be used for the implementation of the Health Facilities Enhancement Program (HFEP), which seeks to build and equip a total of 512 regional health units, 363 barangay health stations, 147 district hospitals and 20 provincial hospitals.

The fund covers all enhancements needed for the healthcare facilities, such as the preparation of architectural and engineering designs, as well as the construction, repair and upgrade of structures and equipment.

In particular, the program hopes to provide emergency obstetric and newborn care services to barangay health stations and regional health units.

It also aims to equip these facilities to a level that will enable them to provide hospital-grade services and accommodate nursing students.

Budget Secretary Butch Abad said the improvements are part of efforts to meet the country’s Millennium Development Goals for public health by 2015. – Angela Casauay/Rappler.com
