The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said two consecutive eruptions happened at around 5 pm.

“The first explosion was steam-generated. The second one was steam-generated, accompanied by an ash column, which is more forceful,” Phivolcs Director Renato Solidum explained.

Solidum added that Phivolcs received unconfirmed reports of ash fall in Irosin and Juban towns.

Mount Bulusan is still on alert level 1, according to Phivolcs. This means sudden phreatic explosions are still expected.

Solidum advised the public to stay away from the 4-km permanent danger zone set by the agency.

Experts said that the volcano is due for a big eruption. The last time it spewed ash was in 2015, causing some 34,000 residents to evacuate from their homes. –Rappler.com
