British royal Princess Anne visits Yolanda survivors
'Having Her Royal Highness visiting Save the Children projects is a huge boost to the staff and communities who need to be reminded that they’re not forgotten after such an incredible process of recovery across the country'

MANILA, Philippines – Princess Anne, the Princess Royal of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, visited communities affected by Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) on Wednesday, March 18.

Anne, the only daughter of Queen Elizabeth II, has arrived in the Philippines on Tuesday, March 17, for a 3-day visit that will highlight her humanitarian work particularly for children.

She met with families in several communities which Save the Children, the charity which she heads in UK, has supported since the deadly typhoon hit Eastern Visayan in November 2013. Survivors in Barangay Tagaytay in Kananga town welcomed the Princess with a song and other performances.

Save the Children has been working closely with communities in restoring houses and providing means to build back better.

According to Save the Children country director Ned Olney, Anne’s visit provided encouragement to the survivors who are still recovering from the disaster.

“Having Her Royal Highness visiting Save the Children projects is a huge boost to the staff and communities who need to be reminded that they’re not forgotten after such an incredible process of recovery across the country,” he said.

Anne’s visit, her second since 1999, is also part of “a series of high level visits from the UK to the Philippines to strengthen relations between the two countries,” according to the UK embassy. – Rappler.com
