MANILA, Philippines –  The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) says relief work and aid distribution in Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) affected areas will continue over the holidays.

According to DSWD Secretary Corazon Juliano Soliman, Field Offices will stay open and personnel, “will be on rotational duty so that relief distribution will not be interrupted.”

Now on its 10th round of relief distribution, the DSWD has newly opened two more relief hubs – one in Isabela, Leyte and another in Catbalongan, Samar that will serve as storage and repacking facilities for relief aid.

The DSWD has distributed a total of 3,321,351 rice and food packs, 494,213 liters of water, 109,601 canned goods, and 244,444 packs of high energy biscuits to 273,782 displaced families across 60 municipalities and 3 cities of Eastern Visayas.

Other non-food items such as tents, hygiene kits, blankets, mosquito nets, mats, towels, cooking pots, water containers, slippers, and plastic cups were also given out to the typhoon survivors.

During a site visit to the region last week secretary Soliman also gave a briefing to the various international humanitarian organizations on the ongoing relief efforts. – rappler.com
