MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) group and Globe Telecom Inc. announced on Wednesday, November 27 they would need till the end of the year to complete the restoration of services in provinces affected by Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan).

PLDT’s Smart Communications Inc. and Digitel Mobile Philippines Inc. (DMPI) have restored 88% of network coverage in Visayas areas affected by the typhoon.

Smart and DMPI’s Sun Cellular also completed reactivation of their services in Tanauan, Leyte.

Globe reported it has restored 85% of its network in areas hit by Yolanda, adding that services have been fully restored in Aklan, Antique, Bohol, Cebu, Guimaras, Iloilo, Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, and Southern Leyte. 

Globe also said that cellular services are now available in the towns of Buruanga in Aklan, Maripipi and Culaba in Biliran, Basey in Samar and San Isidro in Northern Samar.

Robert Tan, Globe’s chief technical adviser, said the company “expects to achieve a 100 percent restoration of its network in areas severely affected by the typhoon by the end of the year.” – Rappler.com
