CALL-OUT: Who is your #SHEro?
In celebration of women's month, help us pay tribute to the heroism of women. Share with us your stories, photos, poems, artworks!

MANILA, Philippines – Happy Women’s Month!

March is celebrated annually not just by women, but by everyone who supports gender equality.

This year, the Philippines highlights the full participation of women in policy-making and their role in society and development. The Philippine Commission on Women hopes to spread this message through the theme, “Juana, desisyon mo ay mahalaga sa kinabukasan ng bawa’t isa. Ikaw na! (Juana, your decision is important for everyone. )!”

MovePH, in partnership with Dakila – an artist and youth organization promoting advocacies through art – will celebrate women heroes for the whole month of March.

Celebrate women’s month through our #SHEro campaign!

Who are the women who inspire you? What lessons have you learned from them?

Tell their stories, post their photos, compose original poems, or create artworks for them.

Step 1: Remember!

Think of all the women who inspired you. Who is your personal SHEro? How did she contribute to the person you are today?

It can be someone you personally know or not – a local community leader, a role model, a mentor, an advocate, a friend, a relative. It can be anyone, even yourself.

Step 2: Share!

Thank these women by sharing their inspiring stories.

You can submit articles profiling your #SHEro. Submissions can vary in length, from a short story to a full-blown 900-word article. It can be in any language. Make sure to include a photo to go along with it!

If you can express yourself better through a simple drawing, poem, performance, dance, song, or any artwork, please feel free to share these with us as well. Let’s use art to celebrate women.

Example of a #SHEro photo submission:

Caption: This is Ka Dolor, a 70-year-old fisherwoman from Navotas. She also makes fishnets, boats, and improvised paddles. I will never forget what she told me: Bihira nagtuturo sa babae, kasi mahina tingin sa amin. Pero kung gustong matuto, kaya namin. Isang karangalan ang maging babaeng mangingisda (Very few teach women because we are viewed as weak. But if we want to learn, we can do it. It’s an honor to be a fisherwoman).”

Example of a #SHEro poetry submission via Twitter:

Tiyan ay lumobo,
hinigpitan ang braso
Lolo, siya ring ama
Buhay ko, sira na ba?
Hindi, sabi mo
Salamat, ate
maraming salamat po
