MANILA, Philippines – Celebrities joined efforts to help farmers affected by the drought in Mindanao by donating sacks of rice.
The sacks of rice were brought to the United Methodist Church in Kidapawan where protesters were camped out after the violent dispersal last April 1. The dispersal had left two farmers dead and scores injured.
According to Kilab Multimedia, 200 sacks of rice were donated by Robin Padilla, 200 from Anne Curtis, and 20 from Anne's sister, Jasmine Curtis, on Monday, April 4. Robin Padilla also paid a visit to Kidapawan City to meet with the farmers and their families.
Other members of the entertainment industry also responded. Angel Locsin donated 120 sacks, while 50 additional sacks were donated by Robin Padilla. Daniel Padilla, Mariel Rodriguez, Bianca Gonzalez-Intal, director Perci Intalan, and Jun Robles Lana donated a total of 250 sacks, Kilab Multimedia reported.
Some farmers who have received donations are already returning to their communities but many still need assistance, according to media reports.
