HIGHLIGHTS: #EndPoverty: Social Business Summit 2014
MANILA, Philippines – How do you end poverty in the Philippines? How do we make economic growth of the Philippines inclusive?
This October 2 to 4, Gawad Kalinga hosts its 2nd Social Business Summit to answer those questions.
Social Business Summit 2013, which brought together 500 social entrepreneurs and innovators from 24 countries, affirmed the growth of social entrepreneurship and the opening of many career and business opportunities in the emerging economies of Asia. This year, the event becomes even more urgent and highly relevant in the light of the Haiyan (Yolanda) tragedy which hit the Philippines a month after last year's Summit.
Speakers at the 3-day summit include government officials, some of the country’s most successful social entrepreneurs, and key persons from the sectors of business and academe. Speakers include Philippine senators Bam Aquino and Pia Cayetano; entrepreneur Manny Osmeña; Rappler CEO & Executive Editor Maria Ressa; and more.
The summit aims to be a convergence of for social innovators and entrepreneurs.(READ: Gawad Kalinga's Social Business Summit October 2-4)
“We want the brightest students from top universities in the city working with the bright poor in the countryside, and the goal is to really address the two major reasons why we cannot achieve prosperity: loss of our human capital due to poverty... and the abandonment of land,” Gawad Kalinga founder Tony Meloto told Rappler.
