MANILA, Philippines – After moving their self-imposed deadline 5 times over, the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) on Monday, August 13, finally voted on and released its short list for chief justice. 

Justice Secretary Leila de Lima, who the President convinced to accept the nomination, has been disqualified by the JBC. 

The following are on the JBC shortlist: 

• Acting Supreme Court (SC) Chief Justice Antonio Caprio (7 votes)
• SC Justice Roberto Abad (6 votes)
• SC Justice Arturo Brion (6 votes)
• SC Justice Ma Lourdes Sereno (6 votes)
• Solicitor General Francis Jardeleza (6 votes)
• Former San Juan Rep Ronaldo Zamora (6 votes)
• SC Justice Teresita Leonardo-De Castro (5 votes)
• Former Ateneo Law Dean Cesar Villanueva (5 votes)
