MANILA, Philippines – In past national elections, Cebu registered as the most vote-rich province in the Philippines with almost 2.5 million registered voters.
With 2.608 million registered voters for the upcoming elections, according to the provincial election registration board, Cebu will likely retain the top spot.
These figures show that Cebuanos play a big role in 2016 presidential elections where the country shall vote for the next national officials who will set the path the country will tread in the next 6 years.
In May 2015, Rappler launched #PHVote: The Leader I Want, the theme of our 2016 presidential elections coverage. As we enter yet another crucial point in our country’s history, we in Rappler believe that the youth have major roles to play in choosing the right leaders.
To empower the Filipino youth in choosing the leaders the country deserves, Rappler and its civic engagement arm, MovePH, will hold #PHVoteChallenge: Cebu’s #TheLeaderIWant. The event aims to engage the youth and to get their sentiments on issues they want to raise in the upcoming elections.
The event will be held on Friday, November 27, from 1 pm to 6:00 pm at the University of San Jose – Recoletos. The event is co-hosted by the Cebu Association of Communication Educators.
