MANILA, Philippines – Habemus Papam!
After 2 days and 5 ballots, the 115 cardinal-electors have voted Jorge Mario Bergolio to become the new leader of the Catholic Church. He succeeds Pope Benedict XVI, who vacated the position in a historic resignation two weeks ago.
The 76-year old cardinal from Argentina becomes the 265th successor to St. Peter, and carries over the responsibilities of leading over 1.2 billion Catholics worldwide. What do you think of this election? How do you see the Catholic Church under his leadership?
In our past conversation, we talked about whether or not the election of another European pope matters to you. Now that a South American pope has been chosen, how do you feel about this? Will this play a big impact in how the Church will view developing problems in the next years?
