Can you help this kid studying on Cebu sidewalk?

MANILA, Philippines – Thousands are sharing the inspiring story of 9-year old Daniel Cabrera, the boy who was pictured studying along the sidewalk beside a fast food restaurant in Cebu. (READ: Kid studying on Cebu sidewalk inspires netizens)

We looked for him. We found him. Can you help him and other street kids?

Daniel is among the 32 street children from the Mandaue Reclamation Area who are continuing their studies.

For those who would like to help Daniel and other street kids in Cebu, here’s how you can help:

  • E-mail Dilaab Foundation, Inc at dilaabsolidarity@gmail.com
  • Wait for the reply of Father Melo Diola of the Archdiocese of Cebu, or his representative. The group will discuss with you how to send your donation.

Dilaab, Solidarity and Communion Committee (SCC), and the Ugnayan nga Barangay at Simbahan (UBAS) are MovePH partners for this initiative.

The groups will accept donations and other forms of support for the kids. They will make sure that the donations are handled in a transparent manner and will reach the intended beneficiaries soonest.

The groups help reintegrate street children into society. According to Father Melo, nearly all of the street children they are helping now go to school and spend much less time in the streets.

“Two of them even landed top three in class. They have a sense of time and purpose. They can be trusted with things and are no longer solvent users,” Father Melo said.

MovePH, Rappler’s civic engagement arm, is gathering inquiries and offers to help.

Do you have other ideas and suggestions on how to extend help to other street kids in Cebu and other provinces? Tell us how. Invite others. Let’s make a difference in their lives.  Rappler.com
